Kundalini Yoga and Its Benefits
Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is an ancient science that has the ability to awaken, elevate and inspire an Individual to reach their maximum creative potential, break away from limiting beliefs and realize their Life Purpose.
Kundalini Yoga is an uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices and incorporates, dynamic breathing techniques, physical postures (Kundalini Yoga Poses), meditation, Deep Relaxation and the chanting of mantras.

Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan follows a certain structure because this way we can be sure to stimulate our energy safely, effectively, and gain the results/benefits that we want.

- Opening Class/Tuning in
A Kundalini Yoga Class will begin by chanting the mantra Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo three times. This mantra means, “I bow to the Creator, to the Divine Teacher within”. Tuning in with this mantra helps us to relax, puts our mind in a meditative state and connects us to the teacher/wisdom within us.
- Pranayama /Warm up series
Pranayama is the practice of consciously controlling the breath in order to alter the flow of energy in the body. There is a direct connection between the activities of the mind and the pattern of the breath: by changing the way you breathe you can change your state of mind.
Warm-up series consists of a series of short exercises that warm up the body and open up te circulation to get energy flowing.
- Kundalini Yoga Kriya
In each class we do a kriya, which is a specific set of yogic exercises that were put together to create specific results. There are thousands of kriyas to choose from which work on all aspects of the body, mind, emotions and soul.
For example, kriya for detoxification, kriya for creating self-love, Kriya to build strength and stamina, kriya to get rid of fear, kriya to get rid of anger, kriya for prosperity and many more.
- Deep Relaxation
After the kriya there is a period of deep relaxation in savasana or corpse pose. This is a blissful experience and allows the body and mind to relax completely and gives space for rejuvenation of spirit.
- Kundalini Yoga Meditation
Following the relaxation there will be a meditation. In kundalini yoga there thousands of meditations that will give a specific result. For eg: Kundalini meditation for Anxiety, Meditation to allevaite Stress. Meditations can include: hand position (mudra), eye focus, breath and mantra.
- Closing Class/Tuning out
We close every Kundalini Yoga practice by chanting The Long Time Sun Blessing along with three repetitions of Sat Nam.

In my experience, I was hooked after my first class of Kundalini Yoga as I instantly experienced the many benefits that this type of yoga has to offer.
In order to get long-term and effective benefits, it is advised to carry out a weekly Kundalini yoga Class .
A daily routine is even better as it can produce positive results more quickly.

Personally, I find Kundalini Yoga to be most beneficial for Stress and Anxiety as it works on the building a strong nervous system which will allow you to cope with challenging situations in a clear and calm way. It has the ability to quieten the mind which in turn produces an increased level of clarity.
Kundalini Yoga strengthens the Immune system and allows one the ability to recognise you are your own best healer as you will be equipped with the tools for optimal health.
Flexibility will improve over time and it will allow the body to become strong. You will begin to feel lighter and your-self image will improve.
